Koios Pro - PRO-KOIOS

Koios Pro camera and USB wall charger

This guide walks you through setting up your Koios Pro one step at a time. It takes about 10 minutes. All you need is your phone and your home Wi-Fi password.

Koios Pro is a 1080p Wi-Fi security camera built into a USB wall charger. You watch it on your phone with the free LookCam app. There is no monthly fee.

Part 1: Get to know your camera

Front of Koios Pro labeled: microSD card slot, reset hole, camera lens, night-vision lights, USB-C port, USB-A port

  • microSD card slot: the memory card goes here. You only need a card if you want to save videos.
  • Reset hole: the small round hole at the top right. You only use it if something goes wrong.
  • Camera lens in the middle, with night-vision lights on both sides so you can see in the dark.
  • USB-C and USB-A ports: plug in your phone or other devices to charge them, like a normal charger.

In the box: Koios Pro camera charger, USB card reader, user manual. A microSD card is sold separately.

Part 2: Before you start

Have these ready:

  • ☑ Your phone (iPhone or Android).
  • ☑ Your home Wi-Fi name and password. Write them down. Koios Pro works with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
  • ☑ A wall outlet indoors, with a clear view of the room.
  • ☑ A microSD memory card (optional) if you want to save videos. Use a Class 10 card, up to 256 GB.

Part 3: Set up your camera (8 steps)

Step 1: Put in the memory card (optional)

Make sure the camera is not plugged in. Slide the microSD card into the slot on the front, above the lens, and push gently until it clicks.

To take the card out later, unplug the camera, then push the card in once and it pops out.

Step 2: Plug in the camera

Plug Koios Pro into the wall outlet. It turns on by itself. Wait 1 minute before you go on.

Step 3: Get the free LookCam app

On your phone, open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), search for LookCam and install it.

When the app asks, tap Allow for notifications (so you get motion alerts) and, on iPhone, for finding devices on your network.

Step 4: Connect your phone to the camera

The camera makes its own Wi-Fi network. Let's connect your phone to it.

  1. On your phone, open Settings, then Wi-Fi.
  2. Look for a network with a long name made of letters and numbers. That is your camera.
  3. Tap it to connect. It is fine if it says "No internet" or "Connected without internet."

Phone Wi-Fi settings: tap the camera's network, a name made of letters and numbers

Tip: If your phone keeps jumping back to your home Wi-Fi, turn off Mobile Data (and Wi-Fi Assist on iPhone) for a few minutes while you set up.

Step 5: Open LookCam and add the camera

Open the LookCam app. It finds the camera on its own and asks to add it. Tap OK.

LookCam asks to add the new camera. Tap OK.

If your phone shows "Internet may not be available", tap Keep Wi-Fi connection.

Message 'Internet may not be available': tap Keep Wi-Fi connection

Step 6: See your camera

Your camera now shows in the app with the words Device Online. (Your camera's name will be different from the picture.)

LookCam My Device screen showing the camera with Device Online

Tap the camera's picture to watch it live.

  • If the app asks you to make a new password, you can tap Cancel for now.
  • If the app asks for the camera's password, type 123456.

Right now you can watch only when your phone is near the camera. Steps 7 and 8 let you watch from anywhere.

Step 7: Connect the camera to your home Wi-Fi

  1. In LookCam, tap the gear icon ⚙ next to your camera.
  2. Tap WiFi Setting.

Tap the gear icon next to the camera, then tap WiFi Setting

  1. Tap your home Wi-Fi in the list.
  2. Type your Wi-Fi password carefully (capital letters matter) and tap OK.

Pick your home Wi-Fi from the list, type its password and tap OK

  1. You will see "Saved, device will reboot." Tap OK and wait 1 minute while the camera restarts.

Message 'Saved, device will reboot': tap OK and wait about a minute

Step 8: Put your phone back on your home Wi-Fi

  1. Open your phone's Settings, then Wi-Fi, and tap your home Wi-Fi.
  2. Turn Mobile Data back on if you turned it off.
  3. Open LookCam. When your camera says Device Online, you are done!

You can now watch your camera from anywhere, on Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Part 4: Everyday use

Watch live, take a photo, record a clip

Open LookCam and tap your camera's picture. Under the video:

  • Tap the camera button to take a photo.
  • Tap the video button to record a clip. Tap it again to stop.

Tap the camera picture to open live view; the camera button takes a photo and the video button records

Night vision turns on by itself when the room gets dark. The picture turns black and white, and you can see up to about 40 ft.

Save videos to the memory card

  1. Tap the gear icon ⚙ next to your camera, then SD Card Setting.
  2. The first time, tap Format sdcard to get the card ready. (This erases everything on the card.)

Device Setting: tap SD Card Setting, then Format sdcard

  1. To record all the time, turn on Auto Record and Loop Record. When the card is full, the oldest videos are replaced by new ones, so it never stops recording.
  2. Video Duration sets how long each video file is (for example, 5 minutes).

SD Card Setting with Auto Record and Loop Record turned on

Record only when something moves

In SD Card Setting, turn Auto Record off and turn Alarm Record on. The camera then saves video only when it sees movement, which saves space on the card.

SD Card Setting with Alarm Record turned on to record only when there is motion

Get an alert on your phone when there is motion

  1. Tap the gear icon ⚙, then Alarm Config.

Device Setting: tap Alarm Config

  1. Turn on Push Notifications.
  2. Tap Motion Detection Sensitivity and pick Low, Medium or High. Choose Low if you get too many alerts, High if you miss things.
  3. Tap OK to save.

Alarm Config: turn on Push Notifications and choose the Motion Detection Sensitivity

The camera notices movement up to about 20 ft away. Also check that notifications for LookCam are turned on in your phone's settings.

Watch your saved videos and photos

At the bottom of the LookCam main screen:

  • Tap Cloud/SD to watch videos saved on the memory card.
  • Tap Photo to see the photos and clips you saved from live view.

LookCam bottom menu: Photo for snapshots, Cloud/SD for recorded videos

On a computer: unplug the camera, take out the memory card, put it in the included USB card reader and plug that into your Windows PC or Mac. If a video won't play, use the free VLC media player.

Charge your phone

The USB-C and USB-A ports on the front work like a normal charger, even while the camera is recording. Let the cables hang down so they don't block the lens.

Part 5: Where to put it

  • Pick an indoor outlet with a clear view of the room.
  • Don't point it through a window or glass. At night the glass reflects the light back and the picture turns white.
  • Keep it close enough to your Wi-Fi router for a good signal.
  • Keep it away from water, sinks and damp areas.

Part 6: Reset the camera

Reset if you get a new Wi-Fi router, change your Wi-Fi password, forget the camera's password, or the camera won't connect.

  1. Keep the camera plugged in.
  2. Find the reset hole (the small round hole at the top right of the front; see Part 1).
  3. Push a paperclip or pin into the hole and hold it for 15 seconds.
  4. Wait 2 minutes, then start again at Step 4.

A reset clears the Wi-Fi and password settings.

Part 7: If something isn't working

I can't find the camera's network in my Wi-Fi list.
Wait 2 minutes after plugging it in. If it still isn't there, unplug the camera for 10 seconds and plug it back in. If the camera was already connected to your home Wi-Fi, it won't show its own network; reset it (Part 6) to start over.

LookCam doesn't find the camera.
Check that your phone is connected to the camera's network (Step 4). Turn off Mobile Data, then close LookCam and open it again.

The camera says Offline.
Check that the outlet has power (some outlets are controlled by a light switch) and that your home internet is working. Move the camera closer to your router. If you changed your Wi-Fi name or password, reset the camera and do Steps 4 to 8 again.

The camera won't join my home Wi-Fi.
Re-type the Wi-Fi password carefully; capital letters matter. Wi-Fi networks with a sign-in page, like hotel or some guest networks, won't work.

I'm not getting motion alerts.
Make sure Push Notifications is on in Alarm Config, and that notifications for LookCam are allowed in your phone's settings. Check that Do Not Disturb is off.

Videos aren't being saved.
Check that the card is pushed all the way in (always with the camera unplugged). Format the card in SD Card Setting, and make sure Auto Record or Alarm Record is turned on. Use a Class 10 card, 256 GB or smaller.

The video freezes or is choppy.
Your internet may be slow. In live view, tap 1080p at the top right and choose a lower quality.

I forgot the camera's password.
Reset the camera (Part 6). The password goes back to 123456. When you make a new password, use only letters and numbers.

Screens may look a little different depending on your phone and your version of the LookCam app.
